Syrah/Shiraz: Dark Fruit and Pepper

A bold red with spice and savory depth: black fruit, pepper, and a meaty edge—often with firm structure.

Syrah (often called Shiraz) is a great choice when you want a red with both fruit and savor: blackberry and plum with black pepper, smoke, and sometimes a distinctly meaty note. Style varies by climate—cooler places emphasize pepper and lift; warmer places emphasize ripe fruit and plushness.

Pairing logic

Syrah loves char and spice. It’s one of the most reliable reds for BBQ, grilled meats, and stews, especially when you want wine that can stand up to smoke and seasoning.
